Here's what Fiona had to say!
Big Mammas Door is a pretty unusual name for a band. How did that name come about?
It's a song and an album by a Blues man called Alvin Youngblood Hart, whom i was introduced to by a friend about 4 years ago. As soon as i saw the name i knew that would be the name of my band! It only took 2 and a half years to find the band.
How long have you all been playing together as a band?
About 15 months now.
As a blues/soul band what sort of age group do you appeal to most?
I find that wherever we play we have a broad appeal, people of all ages seem to like what we do. I think its got a lot to do with the energy we create on stage (sounds like a cliche, i know, but its true) we make people have fun. I think that's the appeal, as well as the music. As one reviewer said, This is good old 50's proper Rhythm & Blues, not the soul-less pop of the 00's, real blues with real rhythm. ITS GOOD MUSIC.
Given a choice where would you really like to play?
Carnegie Hall, New York.
And why?
Cos Billie (Holiday) played there, as did all the greats...and it's in NY.
Where does your inspiration come from?
Lots of different things inspire. With Big Mammas Door music its's definitely the sound of original RnB. Im inspired every time i listen to one the great ladies sing, BILLIE, BIG MAYBELLE, DINAH WASHINGTON, ELLA, JANIS, ARETHA, BIG MAMA THORNTON.
Do you think being a member of My Space has been good for you?
Yes definitely, I've made a lot of good contacts and friends on there. It's quite a good barometer of what people think about your music.
What sort of music do you listen to when youre at home relaxing?
Funnily enough at the moment, I'm listening to Billie at Carnegie Hall! I like to relax to a band called Pink Martini or sometimes classical music... it really depends!
